eBay Awareness.

As NINbay promotes eBay auctions, we also feel we should help our users to reduce the risk of fraudelent transactions and scammers that are found on eBay by:

  • refraining from including any auctions in our site that we deem might be fraudelent as to help prevent our users from visiting these auctions
  • offering a page with some basic eBay guidelines as to what to look out for when viewing an auction

 

When viewing an auction, always consider these points:

 

  1. Look at the feedback the seller has. Be cautious for users that have just registered on eBay recently and that have no feeback.
  2. Beware of auctions where the user or bidders ID is kept private. Even eBay warns of this.
  3. Never send money by bank wire transfers, cheques, Money Transfers (Western Union, etc...), cash unless the seller has over 20 positive feedback for selling items (some might have over 20 feedback but for buying items).
  4. Remember try paying by PayPal as much as possible as they offer buyer protection should the transaction go wrong. Also make a note of the amount you are protected for on PayPal as these amounts change from seller to seller and item to item.
  5. Paying through PayPal by Visa is even safer as you can also claim with your Visa counterpart should your claim not be resolved with PayPal
  6. Make sure the deal is legitimate before sending any money, again look at the feedback the seller has. Make sure they have been an eBay user for longer than a couple of days, week, or even a month and what they offer for sale is consistent with their past sales.
